We have two choices at present for safe & pure moisturizing & skin care - our organic Face & Body Cream/Salve & our organic Facial & Body Oils.
Please continue reading below for additional product information.
ABOUT THESE PRODUCTS...
Our organic Face & Body Cream & our Healing Balm are both heavier in texture than lotion - more like a salve/cream. Both offer wonderful, lasting moisturizing benefit without being greasy or oily. At some point this year we hope to develop a true lotion with organic Grape Alcohol as the preservative, since all lotions must have something to control bacteria count.
Our organic Body Oils are a very nice alternative to a lotion moisturizer, as they moisturize without being greasy.
All of our wonderful organic Cream & Oil products are made without chemicals or preservatives (*please see the bottom of the page). Because of this our organic Creams have an average shelf life of 2-4 months (depending on the temperature they are kept at) while Body Oil products have an average shelf life of 4-9 months if kept cool (as all fresh cold-pressed oils will).
Heat, humidity and mishandling are the enemy of organic products without preservatives, so for maximum lifespan keep them in the refrigerator when not in use.
We leave the top off of our Face & Body Cream once we open a jar in our bathroom, and find that they last much longer that way. Preventing condensation from building up in the capped jar (by leaving it open) makes a difference of a few months shelf life in our home. You might want to try it and see if the humidity and heat changes in your home affect your jar creams, as it does ours here in the South.
The trade-off for having safe, organic products without dangerous preservatives in them is a limited shelf life. Because of this limited life, we package products in smaller sizes in glass jars - to help you use them up while fresh. If they are kept in the refrigerator they will keep nearly indefinately, like any organic cold-pressed oil will. If they begin to turn rancid in time, you will know it, as the scent and texture will change. They should then be thrown out, as you would an organic Olive Oil that started to turn, for example.
All of our fresh organic products are truly good for your skin & good for you internally since there are no dangerous chemicals being absorbed through your skin for your organs to deal with.
We hope you enjoy the quality & benefit of these wonderful organic products!
*FOOTNOTE: Do Your Skin Care Products Contain Any Of The Following Chemicals?
Go get one right now and read the Ingredients label. You may be sadly surprised at what you find.
Reading through this brief list of common ingredients and their side-effects should demonstrate to you why a switch to "Organic WITHOUT Chemicals" skin care products is important to you and your family's health and well-being.
We are the only organic site we know of that makes this commitment to you - to be "Organic WITHOUT Chemicals"...
"Here are a few of the most common ingredients:
* Mineral Oil, Paraffin, and Petrolatum – Petroleum products that coat the skin like plastic, clogging pores and creating a build-up of toxins, which in turn accumulate and can lead to dermatologic issues. Slows cellular development, which can cause you to show earlier signs of aging. Suspected cause of cancer. Disruptive of hormonal activity. By the way, when there’s an oil spill in the ocean, don’t they rush to clean it up – fast? Why put that stuff on your skin?
* Parabens – Widely used as preservatives in the cosmetic industry (including moisturizers). An estimated 13,200 cosmetic and skin care products contain parabens. Studies implicate their connection with cancer. They have hormone-disrupting qualities – mimicking estrogen – and interfere with the body’s endocrine system.
* Phenol carbolic acid – Found in many lotions and skin creams. Can cause circulatory collapse, paralysis, convulsions, coma and even death from respiratory failure.
* Propylene glycol – Used as a moisturizer in cosmetics and as a carrier in fragrance oils. Shown to cause dermatitis, kidney or liver abnormalities, and may inhibit skin cell growth or cause skin irritation.
* Acrylamide – Found in many hand and face creams. Linked to mammary tumors in lab research.
* Sodium laurel or lauryl sulfate (SLS), also known as sodium laureth sulfate (SLES)– Found in car washes, engine degreasers, garage floor cleaners… and in over 90% of personal care products! SLS breaks down the skin’s moisture barrier, easily penetrates the skin, and allows other chemicals to easily penetrate. Combined with other chemicals, SLS becomes a “nitrosamine”, a potent class of carcinogen. It can also cause hair loss. SLES is sometimes disguised with the labeling “comes from coconut” or “coconut-derived”.
* Toluene – Poison! Danger! Harmful or fatal if swallowed! Harmful if inhaled or absorbed through the skin. Made from petroleum or coal tar, and found in most synthetic fragrances. Chronic exposure linked to anemia, lowered blood cell count, liver or kidney damage, and may affect a developing fetus. Butylated hydroxytoluene (BHT) contains toluene. Other names may include benzoic and benzyl.
* Dioxane – Found in compounds known as PEG, Polysorbates, Laureth, ethoxylated alcohols. Common in a wide range of personal care products. The compounds are usually contaminated with high concentrations of highly volatile 1,4-dioxane, easily absorbed through the skin.
Dioxane’s carcinogenicity was first reported in 1965 and later confirmed in studies including one from the National Cancer Institute in 1978. Nasal passages and liver are the most vulnerable. Dioxane is easily removed during the manufacturing process by “vacuum stripping”. Warning: It is a synthetic derivative of coconut. Watch for hidden language on labels, such as “comes from coconut” [to make it seem like a safe ingredient]."
